Paper-craft First Prototype - Lightsaber

Image
For this assignment, I wanted to create a lightsaber from a not so famous franchise called Star Wars; more specifically one of Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsabers-  because one, I am a child and want to own a cool lightsaber, and two because Star Wars is a franchise that my family all enjoy watching with one another, which allows us to connect and talk. We even went so far as to make this tradition where we would go watch new Star Wars movies in theatres despite all of our hectic schedules and whereabouts.            The two images below was the model created in Rhino7, and what the paper model was supposed to look like.          Unfortunately, this first prototype is ROUGH. So much so, that I didn't really want to work more on it unless I restarted the folding process. Because of all the mistakes I found, I was very unmotivated to continue without addressing how to fix it.          As you can see, I ended up taking away a lot of the details from the original image. Object Design Assignment 4 Writing: Paper Artist Vincent Tomczyk on Colossal

For this week's blog post, I would like to discuss Vincent Tomczyk’s artwork, and why I was compelled by his paper creations.           Vincent Tomczyk’s work consists of detail, detail, and more detail. So much so that looking at his artwork at first glance, one wouldn’t be able to tell the object was created by paper. Tomczyk explains that he, “reconstruct(s) (his artwork) into (his) view of its essential self- free of function,” which really challenges the viewer to view the objects Tomcyzk creates as its own creation rather than a nonchalant daily used item. By really paying attention to these objects' details, one can really grow to appreciate these items that are often taken for granted. One way that Tomczyk is able to achieve this precision is the use of his previous knowledge working by his fathers side in a workshop.                      Picture of Vincent Tomczyk                                                                                       Tomczyk des

Papercraft Objects: Digital Samples

Image
For this week, we were tasked to create 8 different objects and start brainstorming for the final copy of the papercraft assignment. Most of my ideas consist of multiple shapes that combine into a whole. I'm leaning towards making a lightsaber for the more detailed assignments so I focused on making hexagons, squares, and more circular shapes. Final Mesh Mashup: Bowling Paradise HD Rendering

Image
For this assignment I unfortunately could not render the completed version due to the lag (apparently there is a limit to the amount of detail you can place). So, I instead rendered my original concept of my idea. Because of this unexpected issue, I ask that you combine my finished idea of the bowling ball with the finished rendering within the magic of your imagination.
